MPS received a $10,000 donation through All for Lunch that cleared overdue meal accounts this month.

When Moore Public Schools Child Nutrition Director Tara Malbrough returned to work after the winter break, she was not prepared for the happy surprise that awaited her in the mail and it's one that she'll remember for years to come.

She opened the mail and saw that the MPS Child Nutrition office received its largest single donation of $10,000 from the nonprofit organization, All for Lunch (AFL). That single gift covered all of the MPS overdue meal accounts.

"I cried; I was in shock. I still feel a bit emotional about this," said Malbrough.

Over 1,300 of our students were blessed to have their meal charges paid off and receive their school meal without worry of a charge.

An anonymous donor in Moore learned about All for Lunch and asked them to give $3,500 to MPS. Afterward, AFL connected with Malbrough to determine the district's remaining balance and said they would cover the rest.

"They said they would cover the rest to help our families for the holidays, so they would not have to worry about their debt. I don't know who our local donor is, but I'm incredibly thankful for them," said Malbrough.

In the donation letter sent to Malbrough, AFL Founder and Exec. Director Alessandra Ferrara-Miller wrote, "Our mission is to eliminate student lunch debt and ensure every child has access to lunch at school, regardless of their financial situation at home."

According to the AFL website, to date, they have funded 281,969 lunches and assisted 728 schools across the U.S.

Assist. Superintendent of Federal Programs Jimmy Martin said, "When we received the information that All For Lunch was going to donate enough to pay all student charges, I was shocked and thrilled.

"Families sometimes struggle to make ends meet, especially during the holidays. This donation came at a great time and was a true blessing to our community."

Malbrough also shared that MPS has a local donor who sends $500 each month to cover outstanding meal accounts for students.
